Penta Hotel Hong Kong: For digital nomads and independent travelers 17

Joining its sister hotels in Beijing, Shanghai and Europe, Pentahotel Hong Kong opened in August 2013 with a goal of providing a “hub” for the local community and a home base of independent minded travelers and “digital nomads”.

The Hotel and Its Facilities

I immediately appreciated the contemporary rustic décor, including aged brick, reclaimed oak and concrete walls painted with Hong Kong graphics.  This was a recurring sight from the entrance all the way to its lobby.

  1. Pizza Bar

I was greeted by a pizza bar that served authentic homemade Italian style pizzas that can be enjoyed on site or to go.

  2.  Recreation Rooms

I enjoyed the fact that they provided in house entertainment such as foosball, pool table and Wii —–all these for FREE.   It was a good way for my friends and I to de-stress after a long day of exploring Hong Kong.

  1.  Swimming Pool + 24 hour gym

Pentahotel offers a swimming pool  on the 3rd floor where you can take a dip during hot days or just lay around and relax by its sun lounges. Right beside it is a gym, for those who would like to start or end their days with exercise.

  1. Cozy Lobby

Pentahotel’s signature design of combining the reception, lobby, bar and café in a single venue makes the area more  lively to be in.  Apart from the incredible staff support, the lobby with the “fireplace’ makes it very inviting for guests to sit around and have a chat.

5. Buffet at eatstreet@Pentalounge

Pentahotel provides buffet breakfast from 7-10 am everyday offering Hong Kong’s comfort dishes and drinks.   The market style food station design of Eatstreet@pentalounge allows the guests to go around and see which “section” they prefer to get their food from.

I loved the set-up and design of this place.  You use your keycards as “tokens” for you to enter and claim your  buffet breakfast.

  • Note:  You may book a room at Bed and Breakfast rate or add a surcharge to enjoy the breakfast buffet

For those who prefer to dine at the hotel, Eat Street is also open daily for lunch and dinner. On Sundays, brunch is also available. For this they have popcorn stands and open-air market style food stands. It was really a sight to see.

I would love to have been able to try all the meals. Unfortunately, I only had time for breakfast.

The staff at Pentahotel are all very courteous and will try to help you as best as they can, hence, my friends and I felt so at home.  In addition to standard services, they provide their guests with far more convenience with their Foreign Currency Exchange, charging stations, in-room dining service, express laundry service and baggage storage.  They really do their best to recognize their guests’ immediate needs.   They hold through to their goal of providing a home for independent travelers.

4. Bathroom

The bathroom has dark tiles and rain shower heads. Pentahotel provides complimentary toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo.

I also loved the fact that there is a HAIR DRYER in the room, which is very important ( at least for girls on the move).

5.Big screen TV + Smart phone docking station

I loved how the alarm clock was not just any alarm clock but a Philips MP3 player that also served as a smart phone docking station.

6. Free Wifi

In this modern day of social technology, wifi is a must. Pentahotel has fast, reliable wifi —–perfect for their goal of providing a hub for digital nomads.

7. Complimentary Coffee and Water

Most people wake up and need to have coffee before they can function, as in the case of my friends. It was good that they not only provided complimentary coffee but also heat-sensitive, well designed mugs to go with it.

8. Sufficient plugging stations

For the type of traveler that I am, I need to have provisions to plug both my cameras, and my cell phone.   This is usually a problem when one has a companion that needs to do so as well. That didn’t seem to be an issue at Pentahotel as the room had more than 5 ports/ sockets that we could simultaneously utilize.

Things around Pentahotel

A convenience store is found right across the street for whatever need you may have 24/7.

  1. Lion’s Rock hike Jump off point is just a station away ( click for the article)

  1. Plaza Hollywood

A mall with Uniqlo at the bottom.  There is also a food court at the top floor that offers good choices of meals. We ate at a restaurant that serves tepanyaki style wherein they cook the food in front of you. Minimalistic but very very delicious. We spent HKD144 for 2 people but we were both super full.

  1. You had me at dessert bar! I love the ambiance of the hotel and the room looks super comfy, I can stay there for the rest of the day.

  2. Pentahotel seems like a great place to stay. I was already sold once I read about the Pizza bar haha, but the Buffet looks sensational as well. I do love the cozy feel the hotel gives off!

  3. The way you describe it, this sounds like a hotel to try in HK. The interesting look with the graphics on the wall very nice. But the best thing is the free wifi!

  4. Great photos, love how unique they were to the hotel. I’ll have to remember to check this hotel out the next time I’m in Hong Kong. Looks like a good value.

Enjoyed how you set up your hotel review and all the additional details. I’ll have to check out your blog to read any other reviews.

  5. This hotel looks pretty amazing! I loved the bay window and that it has free Wi-Fi 😉 Plus, I see there are interesting things to do and see nearby.

  6. I like the look of the place which is a bit old school that has the flavor of Hong Kong. It’s so cool, it’s nearby Lion Rock. I trekked the Lion Rock last month too.

  7. I love the Penta Hotel mood, design and setup. Its like old Hong Kong. They have decent facilities also. Going to check out their website for the rate because I m going to Hong Kong end of this year.

  8. Wow lovely hotel – I like the decor and it really is a cozy corner worth spending time in, the way it’s set up. Thanks for the review. I prefer staying on Hong Kong island though – maybe it’s time to try kwooloon instead!

  9. Love the décor!
Thanks for sharing all the info, we are planning to go to Hong Kong in a few months, so it is good to know that PentaHotel is comfy and with reliable WIFI!

  10. That forest of skyscrapers is just unreal. I can’t believe how posh all of these locations are, a true golden age in Asia. I wonder how accessible all of this is to a student traveler like myself.

  11. This place looks awesome. Skyline is incredible too. Consider it added to our ‘places to stay’ list 🙂

  12. This hotel looks beautiful and perfect! It already won my heart just with the pizza bar! A pizza bar! Nom nom. Is it open 24 hours? Overall, this hotel looks amazing, I will definitely put this on my list if I ever find my way to Hong Kong.
